Pure Skin Therapy Blog
Brave new world of Beauty.
31 August 2016
Here we go again, week two of our blogging! We are in the midst of our Central Otago Winter and now is the optimum time to get serious with our skin treatments.
I have titled this week’s blog “Brave new world of BEAUTY” The high tech tools of today, internet being the most dominant, have completely changed the face of the beauty industry market place. Now, change is enviable, we all know that, however never has that change affected the way that we as Beauty Therapists operate.
In the beginning (not that long ago) going to the ‘beautician’ as it was called in those days was considered, pampering, a treat, waxing was for the legs only, a bikini was a bit radical!
The medical professional is becoming increasingly involved and our skincare actually works at a level never known before.
These are exciting times! And this was evident when recently we attended the prestigious annual Beauty Tech Conference in Auckland that showcases all the latest research findings and technologies. We find it essential to attend such conferences to stay on the edge of technology and rest assure we are at the top of the game!
This week we have some news to announce. Have you heard of needling? Well, for the last 2 years I have been researching this practice. As a result of my research we (PURE) have gone one step further and invested in the latest advancement in needling…. THE DERMA STAMP! The Derma-Stamp is of the same modality as the Derma Roller but there is no longer the need to manually run a roller over the skin and pleasurably unlike the roller (from my personal experience) the results are greater and there is no pain associated with the Derma-Stamp treatment.
Ok, now I feel you are all starting to get excited like us, so question is: what does the Derma Stamp treat? Well, I am pleased you asked! Tissue Regeneration (cell turnover), Skin Rejuvenation (brightening), Collagen Induction Therapy (stimulating the collagen in the skin), Scar Reduction Therapy (reducing appearance), Fine Lines, Wrinkles, Deep Wrinkles, Hyper – Pigmentation (age spots, build up of melanin), Pore Size Reduction, Stretch Marks, Acne Scarring, Skin Tightening and Isolated Scarring.
To explain how the Derma Stamp works. Derma Stamp is a treatment using very fine needles. It is a medical device used in micro needling to break down old scar tissue and to stimulate skin cells to proliferate. This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibres as well as new capillaries for an improved blood supply. The procedures are called Scar Reduction Therapy (SRT) & Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

“PURE Skin Therapy where your concerns are our secret”
24 August 2016
So here I am! My first blog… it seems like you can teach an old dog new tricks! Introducing myself, my name is Gay Kennedy and I founded Pure Skin Therapy in Wanaka in 2003.
Many think that Beauty Therapy is about Beauty, well it’s not. In fact, the name needs a Face Lift!. Beauty Therapy, for the team at Pure, is about looking after you inside and out. Looking good, feeling good has a positive throw back for life. Looking after yourself works on many levels and we cater for all, so think about what your skin means to you.
The skin is the body’s biggest organ, that’s right it’s an organ! Would you let your heart or kidneys fry in the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays? Of course not, you would at least cover them and we should with the skin too.
I am going to take you on a journey of education. Discovering just what skincare products are and what they do. This week we are starting with serums, let’s get started.
The Secret of Serums. What are they?
Serums are very specific in what they do. Unlike your moisturiser, which is heavier in texture and sits on top on your skin as a cream, serums are much more concentrated, lighter in texture and delivered into the skin via a very fine molecule, small enough to penetrate the skins barrier and work with the cells beneath.
What do they do
Serums are formulated to deliver specific ingredients into the skin to address specific skin conditions such as congestion, pigmentation and dry dehydrated skins
A quality serum that addresses many of these conditions is one that contains either Vit C or Vit A. Vit C is essential for skin health as an antioxidant, brightens the skin, decreases UV damage, is needed for wound healing and for the support of collagen. Topically applied Vit A works with the mitochondria or power house of the cell to treat many skin disorders such as acne, sun damage, pigmentation and of course aging.
How do I use them?
When it comes to knowing how to use your skincare products, you should always start with the lightest textured products first. After you have cleansed your skin your serum should be always be applied before your moisturiser.
Choosing a high quality serum and moisturiser can be a nightmare and not all serums are created equal. When investing money into skincare, make sure your therapist knows what they are prescribing and only trust a qualified Beauty Therapist, check your Therapist’s qualifications! Unfortunately our industry is not regulated, you wouldn’t trust an unqualified dentist… so don’t trust an unqualified Beauty Therapists
It is worth investing in good products that serve your skin well to achieve optimum results.
